My computer, tablet of smartphone can't find the 'hello-emberpulse' network. What should I do?

Some computers, tablets and smartphones do not automatically update the list of available Wi-Fi networks. Try refreshing the list, or turning the Wi-Fi feature of your computer, tablet or smartphone off and then on again. The 'hello-emberpulse' network should then be seen on the list.

What should I do if my Emberpulse can't find my home Wi-Fi network?

Check the following:

  1. Check that your Wi-Fi router is on and you can connect to it successfully from another device like a smartphone, tablet or notebook computer.
  2. Check that you have entered the correct details for your Wi-Fi network during the connection procedure.
  3. Check the frequency that your Wi-Fi network runs on. Most networks use 2.4 GHz and your Emberpulse supports this. Some networks use 5 GHz and your Emberpulse cannot use those networks. Usually if your router has a 5 GHz network it can also use 2.4 GHz, so try configuring your router to support a 2.4 GHz network.

I configured my Emberpulse successfully, but now my internet is not working. What should I check?

Check that your home Wi-Fi network is selected. When you configured your Emberpulse, you were instructed to connect your phone, tablet or computer to the 'hello-emberpulse' network. Now you will need to reconnect your phone, table or computer to your normal home network, using the network settings on your device.

What should I do if my Emberpulse continually connects and disconnects from my Wi-Fi network?

Try moving your Emberpulse closer to your Wi-Fi router or install a Wi-Fi range extender device. Additionally, if your router uses the mobile phone network for its internet connection, you may experience difficulty keeping Emberpulse connected. This is because these type of routers disconnect from the internet whenever they detect little or no activity on Wi-Fi, in order to save you data costs. Unfortunately, this also interferes with the Emberpulse unit's ability to stay connected. Investigate your router's settings to find a way to stop the router disconnecting itself from the internet, or use a broadband (e.g. ADSL) router.

Does my Emberpulse have to be connected to the internet?

Yes, your Emberpulse relies on an internet connection to operate.

What happens if I lose internet connection?

The pulse light of your Emberpulse will show a steady magenta colour. No data will be sent to the Emberpulse cloud or app. However, your Emberpulse will continue to read and store data from your meter. The stored data will be sent to the Emberpulse cloud the next time you reconnect to the internet.

While getting set up I see an error message that tells me to check my router settings. What does this mean and what should I do?

If you see this error message, your Emberpulse has connected successfully to your Wi-Fi network but cannot connect to the Emberpulse cloud because it is being blocked by a firewall. Often this is due to your router having strict firewall settings which block specific ports that Emberpulse uses to communicate. Make sure that ports 80, 443, and 8883 are available to outgoing traffic on your router. If this does not fix the problem, contact Emberpulse Support at support@emberpulse.com for assistance.
